Farelogix is launching Project Hawkeye, an open-source, web-based point of sale application for the travel industry. Built using .NET and C#, Hawkeye is a robust application that can be used as an ‘off-the-shelf’ agent desktop; or users may download the source code and customize it to fit their particular business, preferences, or workflow needs.
Project Hawkeye has all the right attributes to draw down booking costs and reduce market share for the OTAs as they did with travel agents a few years ago. What goes around comes around…

I subscribe to several magazines, I read from two to four newspapers and about twenty blogs a day. Except for the magazines, I read all the news on the Internet from my computer or Blackberry. According to a recent article on Newsweek, the printed media might be saved by technology in the near future. Here it explains how:
When scientists inside the MIT Media Lab began toying with “electronic paper” more than a decade ago, much of their enthusiasm focused on single killer app: a portable, paperless newspaper. E-newspapers would be a huge environmental win, eliminating the need to pulp trees and burn gasoline delivering the traditional folded parcels to readers’ driveways. Like many technologies, however, e-paper has been slow to take off. In the past year, since Amazon introduced its Kindle electronic reading device, thousands of Americans have experienced the pleasures of e-books—but for most people, e-newspapers aren’t yet a reality.
